S
Storage, explained: what cookies do, how the worksheet behaves and which controls remain with your browser.
What cookies are
Cookies are small pieces of information a website can ask a browser to store and return with later requests. Similar technologies include localStorage and sessionStorage. These can support necessary functions or optional purposes such as audience measurement. Their purpose, rather than their name alone, determines the relevant consent requirements.
The editorial pages and worksheet
The editorial scripts supplied with this website do not set advertising or analytics cookies and do not store worksheet entries in cookies, localStorage or sessionStorage. Navigation state, selected scent-family tabs and generated brief text are held in the current page while it is open. The site does not include third-party analytics libraries, external font services or embedded video players.
Any separate site-wide consent control may retain your choice so that it can be honoured on later visits. A consent preference is distinct from the contents of your worksheet. Accepting optional storage is not required to read these fieldnotes or create a local brief, and optional tracking must not be activated before any consent required by law.
Local actions are different from cookies
The Copy action writes your generated brief to the device clipboard only when you request it and the browser permits it. Download creates a plain-text file through a temporary browser object URL, which the script subsequently releases. Neither action uses a cookie to hold the brief or sends the document to the editorial team.
Your browser or device may independently retain browsing history, cached page resources, form history, clipboard contents or downloaded files. Browser session restoration may also restore entered text. These are not the same as the worksheet deliberately saving your information to website storage.
Manage your choices
Use your browser’s privacy or site-data settings to inspect and remove cookies and other stored site information. You can also restrict cookies or clear browsing data. Removing a stored consent preference may cause a site-wide preference control to ask for your choice again. Blocking JavaScript disables interactive tabs and worksheet actions, but the editorial text and email links remain available.
To remove a generated document, delete it from your downloads or chosen save location. Clear or replace clipboard contents if needed, especially on a shared device. Closing a page is not a reliable way to delete a file that you have already downloaded.
External links and further information
Following an external reference takes you to another website, which may use its own cookies and controls. Review that site’s notice before accepting optional technologies. For wider information about personal data, see our Privacy notice.
